Bernard
A. Nieland, 86, of Breda, died New Year's day at the Loring Care
Center in Sac City. He had been in failing health for the past two
years.
Mass of the resurrection was celebrated at 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday at St. Bernard's church in Breda with the Rev. J. Charles
Yetmar officiating.
Burial was in St. Bernard's cemetery under the direction
of the Sharp Funeral Home of Breda.
Mr. Nieland, son of John Henry and Anna Koester Nieland,
was born on March 29, 1890 at Breda. He spent his youth in the vacinity
of Breda. His marriage to May Ann Grote took place on February 10,
1914 at St. Bernard's church in Breda with the late Rev. G.H. Luehrsmann.
After their marriage they moved to a farm three miles north of Breda
where they lived for 55 years. They retired in 1956 and in 1969
moved to Breda, their present home. He was a member of St. Bernard's
church, Breda.
Surviving are his wife, Mary, of Breda; four daughters:
Mrs. Florence Evers of Sac City; Mrs. Virgil (Irene) Bierl of St.
Benedict, Iowa; Mrs. William (Jolene) Jensen, Jr. of Anamosa and
Mrs. Kenneth (Charlotte) Carter, of Alta; three sons, Patrick Nieland,
of Manson; Cyril Nieland of Sac City and Paul Nieland of Wall Lake.
Also surviving are 35 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and
the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Jake Wittry of Breda; Louis
Nieland of Breda; and Herman Nieland of Wall Lake.
He was preceded in death by one son, Arthur in World
War II, who died Sept 7, 1944; seven sisters and five brothers.
