MRS. WM. NIELAND OF MT. CARMEL DIES SATURDAY MORNING

Mrs. William Nieland, well know in Carroll and vicinity, died at the St. Anthony hospital at 1:30 o'clock Saturday morning, August 23rd, 1930. Mrs. Nieland had been in ill health for the last two years, suffering with diabetes and complications. She had been in the St. Anthony hospital at numerous times for treatment and spent the greater portion of the spring there. Last Thursday she became very ill, and returned to the hospital where, in spite of the best of medical care and treatment, she passed away in the early morning hours Saturday.

As Catherine Grote, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Grotte of Breda, Mrs. Nieland was born at Breda September 25th, 1890. This was her home until her marriage to William Nieland which took place January 16th, 1912, at St. Bernard's church, Breda. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Nieland located on a farm four miles north of Carroll, which has since been the family home.

To Mr. and Mrs. Nieland were born two sons and one daughter, Andrew, Walter and Stella.

Mrs. Nieland was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel church, Mt. Carmel. She was a splendid, ambitious woman, happiest when at home with her family. She was usually busy with her household duties and derived much pleasure from these activities, often doing more than her health would permit.

Besides her husband and children, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Grotte of Breda, and by four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Ben Nieland, Miss Anna Grotte, Miss Regina Grotte, Mrs. Hildegard Grotte, Anton Grotte and Herman Grotte, all of Breda. She was a niece of Mrs. Joseph Heue of this city.

Funeral services were held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church, Mt. Carmel, at 9 o'clock Monday morning and burial was made in the Mt. Carmel cemetery.

Relatives from a distance in attendance at the services were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Braun of Alton, Ia., Mrs. Godfrey Rust and sons, Joe and Frank, of Rice Lake, Wis., Joe Rust and son, Frank, and daughter, Josephine, and Mrs. Joseph Riesberg and children of St. James, Minn.
