Elinor Vonnahme Nees, 89, of Carroll and a native of Breda, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at the Carroll Health Center where she had resided the last seven years.

Mass of the Christian burial was held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with Father Robert Brown officiating.

Pallbearers were Craig Peterson, Dennis Vonnahme, LeRoy Nieland, Jerry Nieland, Allen Nieland, Wilmer Snyder, Kurt Vonnahme and Larin Vonnahme.

Gift bearers were Rhonda Hoffman and Stephanie Peterson.

Visitation began after 2:30 Tuesday at Twit Funeral Home in Carroll with a rosary Tuesday at 3 and vigil service at 7 p.m.

A daughter of Frank and Mary (Naberhaus) Nieland, she was born March 12, 1913, in Breda. She was educated at St. Bernard's in Breda.

She married her first husband, Alois Vonnahme on February 12, 1935 in Breda. He passed away in 1976.

She married George Ness on November 17, 1987 in Mount Carmel.

Mrs. Nees was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and the Alter Society and Choir in Mt. Carmel. She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting and cooking.

Mrs. Nees is survived by three children and their families: Marvin J. Vonnahme and his wife Judy, of Campbellsburg, Indiana, Lee J. Vonnahme and his wife LaVonne, of Westside and Del Rae Peterson and her husband, Richard, of Scranton; a son-in-law, Raymond Yuhasz of Arlington, Texas; a sister Jenny Lammers and her husband, Herman, of West Union; two brothers, Arnold Nieland and his wife Germaine, of Auburn and Norbert Nieland of Carroll; and a brother-in-law, William Reineke of Carroll; eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Nees was preceded in death by her first husband, Alois Vonnahme in 1976; her second husband, George Nees in 1995; a son, Robert Vonnahme; a daughter Colleen Yuhasz; three sisters, Sister Anthusa, FSPA, Julia Poeppe and Mary Reineke; and a brother, Richard Nieland.
