Ferdinand Steinkamp  1877-1963

BREDA — Ferdinand Steinkamp, 85, retired farmer in the Breda community, died about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll. He had been ill since March [1962].

Requiem mass will be read at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at St. Bernard's Church in Breda, with interment in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the Twit funeral Home in Carroll after 7 p.m. Thursday. The rosary will be recited Thursday at 8 and 8:45 p.m.; and Friday at 3, 8 and 8:45 p.m. The Re. J.P. Huasmann will lead the 8 p.m. recitation on Friday.

Mr. Steinkamp was born in Germany on Aug. 25, 1877, and came to the United States at the age of 11. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Steinkamp. The family settled on a farm in Carroll County. He was married to Mary Nieland at Breda on Feb. 7, 1899.

Surviving are seven children: Tony Steinkamp and Mrs. Joe (Mary) Kohorst, Arcadia; Mrs. Andrew (Elizabeth) Thobe, Carroll; Fred Steinkamp, Laurens; Mrs. Henry (Theresa) Kramer, Glidden; Mrs. Hilbert (Agnes) Eischeid, Manning; and Leonard Steinkamp, Breda; also 31 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, Joe and Walter; his parents; one brother and three sisters.
