George M. Nees, 88, of 327 W. Seventh St., Carroll, died Tuesday, April 4, 1995, at the Carroll Health Center.

Mass of the Christian burial for Mr. Nees will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll with the Rev. Richard Remmes officiating. Lector will be Craig Peterson and Rhonda Vonnahme.

Casket bearers will be Kenneth Nees, Elmer Nees, Douglas Nees, Norman Olberding, Vernon Olberding and Don Henkenius.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Friends will call after 3 p.m. and a rosary will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Twit Funeral Home in Carroll. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born March 28, 1907, at Mount Carmel, a son of Joseph and Wilhelmina (Kies) Nees, and was educated at Mount Carmel.

He and Christine Thobe were married Feb. 14, 1933 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Mount Carmel with the Rev. Roth officiating.

Mr. Nees farmed for 25 years and worked at H&H Foods in Carroll for 20 years before retiring.

His first wife died September 30, 1986.

He and Elinor (Nieland) Vonnahme were married Nov. 17, 1987, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel with Monsignor Behrens officiating.

Mr. Nees was a member of Holy Spirit Parish.

He had been a resident of Carroll Health Center since 1991.

Survivors include his second wife, Elinor, of Carroll, two daughters: Lois Maxwell of Carroll and Phyllis Kane of West St. Paul, Minn.; four stepchildren and their spouses: Colleen Yuhasz and her husband, Roz, of Omaha, Neb., Marvin Vonnahme and his wife, Judy, of Campbellsburg, Ind., Lee Vonnahme and his wife, LaVonne, of Westside and Del Rae Peterson and her husband, Richard, of Scranton; eight step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchilren, six sisters: Anna Henkenius of Massena, Iowa, Dora Olberding of Odebolt, Sister Eloise Nees of LaCrosse, Wis., Mary Daniel of Lidderdale, Julie Rettenmaier of Breda and Leona Donelson of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Leon Nees, and his wife, Genevieve of Tongonxie, Kan.; and a sister-in-law, Angela Nees, of Mount Carmel.

Mr. Nees was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Christine; four brothers: Carl, Rudolph, Frank and William; two sisters: Emma Freese and Margaret Mosman.
