John F. Thobe  1934-2001

Mass of the Christian burial for John F. Thobe of Red Oak, formerly of Mt. Carmel, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Mount Carmel with Father Robert Brown officiating.

Mr. Thobe, 67, died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Red Oak, where he had been a resident since 1997.

There will be a visitation after 2:30 Tuesday at Twit Funeral Home in Carroll, with a rosary at 3 and a vigil service at 7 p.m.

Mass servers are Brett Pudenz, Weston Pudenz and Michael Behrens. Gift bearers are Ashley, Lisa and Jonathan Thobe. Casket bearers are Art Reiff, Ray Huegerich, Ken Steinkamp, Rich Pudenz, Ervin Loneman, Paul Grote and Bob Wittrock.

Burial will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Mount Carmel. A military honor guard will be provided by the Fred F. and Norman J. Bruening Post No. 607 of the Breda Legion.

He was born March 15, 1934, in Mt. Carmel, the son of Andrew and Elizabeth (Steinkamp) Thobe. He attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School.

On Dec.1, 1962, he was married to LaVonne Sporrer at St. Joseph Church in Dedham by Father henry Meyer. Mr. Thobe served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. He farmed until 1986, drove a bus for the Carroll Community School District for 12 years and was employed at Goecke Locker and Pudenz Trucking.

Mr. Thobe was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and its Men's Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Irlmeier.

Mr. Thobe is survived by his wife, LaVonne Thobe of 146 Woodbury Circle in Council Bluffs, 51503; four children, Terry Thobe and his wife, Laurie, of Carroll, Sue Hake and her husband Dan, of Sidell, La., Jane Thobe of Carroll and Bill Thobe of Breda; a brother, Marvin Thobe and his wife Bernice, of Audubon; six grandchildren; and in-laws, Leonard and Sabina Sporrer of Dedham.
