Leo Francis Braun 1925-1990

Leo F. Braun, 64, Granville, died on Wednesday, July 4, 1990, unexpectedly at his home near Granville.

Funeral services are pending with arrangements being completed by the Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen.

Mr. Bran was born on Oct. 28, 1925 in LeMars to Mrs. and Mrs. Arthur and Bertha (Nieland) Braun. In 1929 the family moved to the Alton area where they were involved in farming.

Mr. Braun was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, Alton, in 1943. He entered the Army on Jan. 28, 1946, and married the former Rosemary Klein on July 23, 1946, in Granville. After his discharge on April 6, 1947, the couple moved to near Granville to farm. They retired on the farm in 1988.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Granville. Mrs. Braun served for 12 years as a commissioner for the Sioux County Soil and Water District, and in 1965 he was named the outstanding commissioner. He served for 16 years on the Floyd Valley Community School District board of directors, many of those as president of the board. He was a board member of the Iowa Association of School Boards from 1981-1985 and served on the Iowa Advisory Commission on Intergovernment Relations from 1982-1985.

Survivors include his wife Rosemary, Granville; four sons, Michael, Wymore, Neb., Anthony, Mesa, Ariz., Peter, Denver, Colo., and Patrick, Des Moines; eight daughters, Mrs. Charles (Georgia) Abboud, Omaha, Mrs. Ronald (Alice) McGrath, Buckingham, Ia., Mrs. Marlyn (Theresa) Abels, Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Charles (Lea) Morse, Redlands, Calif., Mrs. Ralph (Diane) Watts, Aurelia, Jeanine Braun, Ames, Lenore Braun, Glendale, Calif., and Mary Braun, Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur J. Braun, Marcus, and Thomas Braun, Alton; two sisters, Mrs. Cyril (Rose Mary) Ortmann, Merrill, and Mrs. Milton (Kathleen Kay) Delperdag, Marcus; a brother-in-law, Gilbert Schreier, Marcus; a step brother, Robert Henrich, San Pedro, Calif.; three step sisters, Estelle Henrich, Long Island, N.Y., Mrs. Bill (Delores) Pfiffle, Sioux City and Mrs. Chester (Rosemary) Iddings, Chester, S.D.

Mr. Braun was preceded in death by his parents; a stepmother, Dolorosa Braun; and infant daughter, Rita; and a sister, Mrs. Gilbert (Margaret) Schreier.
