Romaine B. Ludwig 1930 - 2002

VAIL—A memorial Mass for Romaine B. Ludwig of Vail will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Vail. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Ludwig, 72, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church, where a scripture wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Huebner Funeral Home in Denison is in charge of the arrangements.

A son of Anthony and Ida (Steinkamp) Ludwig, he was born June 6, 1930, at Mount Carmel and completed his education at the parochial school there. He then worked in road construction for four years before joining the Navy in 1950.

After completing his military duties and receiving an honorable discharge in 1954, he returned to Iowa and ran an oil station business in Auburn with his brothers. In June 1956, Mr. Ludwig was united in marriage to Norma Koster. The couple farmed in Carroll and Pocahontas Counties. In March 1962, he purchased a farm near Vail, where he was involved with grain and livestock farming. Around that time he received his pilot's license and enjoyed taking his family on airplane rides.

Mr. Ludwig was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Vail and the American Legion Post 65 of Vail. He enjoyed spending time with his family and farming.

Survivors include his wife, Norma of Vail; three sons, Bob Ludwig and his wife, Lynette, of Vail, Tom Ludwig and his wife, Colleen, of Denison and John Ludwig. of Westside;' two daughters, Cathy Gayle and her husband, Tom, of Piano, Texas and Terry Popp and her husband, Brian, of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Duane Ludwig and his wife, Betty, of Sioux Rapids, Norman Ludwig and his wife, Mary, of Breda and Orville Ludwig and his wife, Edna, of Carroll; a stepbrother, Virgil Neumeyer and his wife, Betty, of Breda; and a stepsister, Darlene Oswald and her husband, Paul, of Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
