Rose Ludwig, 95, of Carroll, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale.  The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Con-Celebrant will be Father Marvin Boes. Mass Servers will be Rose’s great-grandchildren, August Halverson and Clayton Reis. Organist will be Deanna Daniel. Soloists will be Rose’s grandchildren: Stephanie Berns, Derrik Bauer, and Trisha Emery.  

Lector will be Rose’s granddaughter, Megan Hardy.  Gift Bearers will be Rose’s grandchildren. Eucharistic Ministers will be Rose’s granddaughter Brenda Reis and her husband Brian Reis. Casket Bearers will be Rose’s grandchildren Amanda Holladay, Derrik Bauer, Brent Goins, Christine Hardy, Mike Klocke, Ryan Strunk, and Kevin Ludwig. Burial will be at Holy Family Cemetery in Lidderdale.

Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. today where there will be a rosary prayed at 5 p.m., followed by a Christian Wake Service by the parish at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be left for Rose’s family at http://www.sharpfuneral.com.

Born on April 23, 1916, at Breda, Rose was the daughter of Theodore and Anna (Schulte) Boes.  She grew up in Breda and attended school there.

On April 19, 1938, she married Arnold Ludwig at St. Bernard’s Church in Breda.  

Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Breda and in 1940 they moved to Lake City. While living on the farm in Lake City, Rose was a member of a gardening club.  They farmed near Lake City and in 1971 Arnold and Rose retired to Carroll.  

Rose volunteered with the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary for over 25 years.  She was a talented seamstress and sewed many dresses for her children.  Rose enjoyed playing many different card games and also was active in numerous card clubs.  She enjoyed baking, crafts and especially spending time with her family.  She was a member of St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, St. Lawrence Parish, and a lifelong member of Holy Family Parish in Lidderdale.

Survivors include her children: Dean Ludwig of Lake City, Louann Klocke and her husband James of Seattle, Wash., Eldon Ludwig and his wife Debbie of West Des Moines, Karen Goins and her husband Steve of Yetter, Jim Ludwig and his wife Dee of Carroll, Judy Strunk and her husband Robert of Carroll, Mary Bauer and her husband Mark of Jefferson; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl (Alice) Boes of Breda; two sisters-in-law: Wilma Boes of Breda, and Margaret Boes of Carroll; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arnold in July 1979; daughter Doreen; son-in-law, Kenny Kirby; daughter-in-law, Diane Ludwig; two grandsons: Benjamin Ludwig and Shane Ludwig; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Ford; two sisters: Philomenia Thelen and Matilda Thelen; and five brothers: Tony, Albert, Raymond, Edmund, and Clarence Boes.
