CARROLL—Sara J. (Birkett) O'Tool, 64, of Carroll died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at Nativity Catholic Church in Dubuque.

Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at Dubuque.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. and St. Lawrence Parish will hold a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. There will also be visitation from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Hoffman-Schneider Funeral Home of Dubuque is in charge of arrangements.

A daughter of Donald P. and Maryel M. (Sproule) Birkett, she was born Feb. 10, 1942, at Dubuque, completed high school at Academy of the Visitation in Dubuque and graduated from Antonio School of Practical Nursing in Carroll.

She and Richard A. O'Tool were married May 16, 1964, at Nativity Catholic Church in Dubuque.

Mrs. O'Tool was a nurse at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll for 10 years. She was a legal secretary for Neu, Minnich, Comito and Neu in Carroll for 26 years.

She was a former member of Carroll Jaycees, the Licensed Practical Nursing Association and the Legal Secretaries Association. She was former chairperson of the Bloodmobile in Carroll and was a den mother for Cub Scouts. She was also a member of St. Lawrence Parish and Ladies Guild.

She enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends in Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, France, Germany, Phoenix, Ariz., Boise, Idaho, and San Diego, Calif. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, reading, crossword puzzles and computer games.

Survivors include two sons: Michael O'Tool and wife Lori of Meridian, Idaho, and their children Derick, Haley, Dana, Tracey and Christopher, and Andrew O'Tool and wife Alina of San Diego and their children, Sean and Olivia; two daughters: Susan Schepanski and husband Robert of North Liberty and their children, Carter, Allison, Tasha, Trevor and Tyler, and Cindy Riesselman and husband Erik of Dallas Center and their children, Alexa and Ethan; two brothers: John Birkett and wife Jan of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Tom Birkett and wife Thalia of Standish, Mich.; four sisters: Mary Jo Graham and husband Tom of Dubuque, Beth Splinter and husband Ken of Dubuque, Ruth Frantzen and Kent Mosher of Waukee and Kay Peters and husband John of Phoenix; and two sisters-in-law: Rose Birkett of Dubuque and Eileen Birkett of Dickeyville, Wis.

Mrs. O'Tool was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: James and Paul Birkett; and two sisters: Rita Manning and Ann Birkett in infancy.
