Susan D. Ludwig, 42 of Carroll, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, surrounded by her family.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Con-Celebrants will be Fr. Timothy Boekelman, Fr. Richard Remmes, Fr. James Tigges and Fr. John McGuirk, assisted by Deacon Gary Schon.  Prelude music will be by All Strings Attached. Pianists for the funeral mass will be Sue Feilmeier and Kim Bata. Soloists will be Lynda Dukes-Franey, Marty Tigges, and Brenda Ashley. Mass Servers will be Adam Schelle, Sam Kemper, and Connor Kanne. Lectors will be Dr. John Evans and Mary Schon.  

Gift Bearers will be: Nicky Kemper, Tina Pawlowski, Kim Murrell, Doug Bass, Kris Collison, Laura Bock, Kim Rupiper, and Sue’s godchildren: Tanner Ludwig, Tia Tiefenthaler, Jay Tigges, and Jordan Olson. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Denis Tigges, Dan Stoolman, Larry Clark, Theresa Boeckman, Connie Sapp, and Jim Masching. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Jill Mahoney, Jenny Reicks, Tami Bordenaro, Teresa Ward, Theresa Tiefenthaler, and the St. Anthony Regional Hospital OB Department. Casket Bearers will be: Mike Snyder, Rick Anthofer, Marty Tigges, Danny Tiefenthaler, Paul Anderson, Doug Gifford, Matt Wendl, Todd Springer, Paul Fitzpatrick, and Scott Rupiper. The Breda Ambulance Service will form an honor guard for the funeral mass.  

Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Holy Spirit Church in Carroll after 3 p.m. Friday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by the parish.  Visitation will resume at Holy Spirit Church at 8:30 a.m. Saturday until time of the funeral mass.

Memorials may be left at the church for the Susan D. Ludwig Memorial Fund which will be a scholarship awarded to a graduating senior from Kuemper Catholic High School pursuing a nursing degree. Born on Aug. 22, 1969 at Pine Ridge, S.D., Susan was the daughter of Dr. Lynn and Judy (Miller) Curry.  

Sue attended Kuemper Catholic High School, graduating with the class of 1987.  Following high school Sue received her RN at Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, and her BSN at Buena Vista University.  

On Nov. 27, 1993 she married Gary “OJ” Ludwig at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll.  Sue and OJ were blessed with three daughters: Carly, Sydney, and Macy.  

She worked at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in the OB Department for 20 years.  

Sue cherished the time she spent with family and friends, especially OJ and her daughters.  Sue’s enthusiasm for fun, zeal for life, devotion to her career and unconditional love of her family and friends were evident in how she lived her life every day.

She enjoyed writing poems, photography/computer imaging, board games (Scrabble, Bananagrams), playing cards (Euchre, Poker, Bourre’) and traveling, highlighted by a memory filled trip with her entire family to the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Sue was active with Caring Hands, Relay for Life and a member of the PEO Sisterhood.  She was a member of Holy Spirit Church and the Breda Ambulance Service.

Those left to cherish her memory include: her husband, Gary “OJ” Ludwig of Carroll; three daughters: Carly, Sydney, and Macy, all at home; her parents, Dr. Lynn and Judy Curry of Carroll; her grandmother, Ruth Miller of Carroll; two sisters: Teri Olson of West Des Moines; Dr. Cathy Tigges and her husband Scott of Carroll; two brothers: Michael Curry and his wife Golda of West Des Moines, and Rob Curry and his wife Bobbi of Waukee; her parents-in-law, Orville and Edna Ludwig of Carroll; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Deb and Mark Tiefenthaler, Randy and Jodi Ludwig, and Mike and K’Lynn Ludwig all of Carroll; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Tom and Louise Curry and Ray Miller; and an aunt, Sharon Lohse.
