Vernon Peter "Lefty" Brincks 1942-2009

CARROLL—Mass of the Christian burial for Vernon Peter "Lefty" Brincks of Carroll will be at 10:30 a.m. Mon-day, May 11, 2009, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll.

Mr. Brincks, 66, died Wednesday, May 6, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll after a 30-year battle with diabetes.

The Revs. Tim Johnson and Ed Tiedeman will concelebrate the Mass. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 a.m.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Carroll.

Visitation starts at 3:30 and the Carroll Knights of Columbus will lead a rosary at 4 Sunday afternoon at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. Holy Spirit Parish will hold a Christian wake service at 7 Sunday night at the funeral home.

A son of Leonard and Margaret (Soyer) Brincks, he was born Nov. 2, 1942, at Carroll, graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll then attended Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha, Neb.

He and May K. Thelen were married May 18, 1963, St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda.

Mr. Brincks worked for Badding Construction Co. and later was a farm consultant for Juergens Produce and Feed Co. for 34 years and received many sales awards from Ralston Purina Co. He later marketed hogs.

He pitched baseball in high school and slowpitch softball for many years and was twice inducted into the Carroll County Softball Hall of Fame: in 1989 for managing and in 1998 for playing.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Carroll; a daughter, Kristy Liechti, and her husband, John, of Lake View; two sons: Eric Brincks and wife Jennifer of Glidden and Bryce Brincks and wife Terri of Glidden; and seven grandchildren: Kevin Liechti, Jay Liechti, Colton Brincks, Megan Brincks, Madison Brincks, Carter Brincks and Branden Brincks.

Mr. Brincks was preceded in death by his parents and his parents-in-law, Fred and Mathilda Thelen
