Rites For Mrs. Walter Nieland Held at Arcadia
Requiem Mass Offered By Rev. Mathias Stork, St.
John's
Funeral services for Mrs. Walter Nieland of Carroll,
formerly Viola Staiert, who passed away Tuesday evening, were conducted
at 9 o'clock Friday morning at St. John's Church, Arcadia. The requiem
mass was offered by the Rev. Mathias Stork.
Burial was in the parish cemetery at Arcadia, with
sic cousins, Arthur and Norbert Nieland, Walter Steinkamp, Vernice
Bueltel, Vincent Kohorst and Clem Mueggenberg acting as pallbearers.
Attending the rites from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Braun
of Alton, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Reiff of Fonda.
Mrs. Nieland's death followed a two weeks illness.
She passed away on the ever before her first wedding anniversary,
leaving her husband and baby son, Kenneth William, fourteen days
old at the time of her death.
Also surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will
Staiert, a twin brother, Joseph, sister, Dorothy, and brother, Ervin,
who reside on a farm six miles west of Carroll, two married sisters,
Mrs. Andrew Nieland (Caroline) and Mrs. Lawrence Wernimont (Amelia),
west of Carroll.
Mrs. Nieland was born March 7, 1916, at Arcadia. After
completing St. John's School at Arcadia, she remained at home with
her parent until her marriage to Walter Nieland, which took place
June 3, 1939, at St. John's Church, with the Rev. Father Stork reading
the nuptial mass.
The young couple made their home on a farm three and
one-half miles north of Carroll.
