The
many friends of Anna Nieland were saddened when they learned of
her death which occurred Monday, May 1, 1933 at her home at 6:45
p.m. She had been ill for seven years from dropsy and diabetes.
Anna Koester was born in Hanover, Germany on January 19, 1863. She
came to this country at 19 years of age. On January 9, 1884, she
was united in marriage to Henry Nieland at the Catholic Church in
Breda. The deceased was the mother of eleven children, of whom one
daughter, Catherine, died in infancy. Surviving her are: Sister
M. Florina of LaCrosse, Wis., William of near Carroll, Bernard north
of Breda, Sister M. Sigmunda of Boseman, Montana, Rose, Mrs. Joe
Wittrock of Oklahoma, Bertha, Mrs. Arthur Braun of Alton, Anna,
Mrs. J. J. Wittry of Lidderdale, Louis, Joseph and Herman who all
live northwest of Breda. Two stepchildren, Henry and George, preceded
her in death. Three stepchildren survive: Mary, Mrs. Ferdinand Steinkamp
north of Breda, Margaret Mueggenborg of Okarche, Ok. and Frank Nieland
of Breda. She is also, survived by one brother, William Koester
of Willey, and a sister and brother in Germany. 27 grandchildren
survive as well. Her funeral was held at 9 o'clock at St. Bernard's
Catholic Church in Breda.
