CROSSE - Sister Florence Koester, Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual
Adoration, 79, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at villa St. Joseph,
La Crosse Wis.
Sister Florence was born on April 25, 1923, to John
and Emma (Stangl) Koester on a farm near Dedham, Iowa. She entered
St. Rose convent on Aug. 28, 1943, and made profession of vows in
1946.
Sister Florence served as a homemaker and food service
manager in convent homes and hospitals in Idaho, Iowa, Washington
and Wisconsin for 38 years. After completing the CREDO program at
Gonzaga University, Spokane, Wash. She took a CPE course and ministered
in pastoral care at St. Anthony's Hospital and Nursing Home, Carroll,
Iowa and Villa St. Joseph. Before retiring to St. Rose Convent in
1997, Sister Florence lived and volunteered at Becker Plaza, La
Crosse. She moved to Villa St. Joseph in 1998.
Sister Florence is survived by her Franciscan community
including a cousin, Sister Mary Elizabeth Heller; FSPA, nieces and
nephews. Her parents and five brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call Monday, Oct. 21, after 4 p.m. At
St. Rose Convent, La Crosse. A Prayer service will be held at 7
p.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. The Rev. Thomas O'Neill, Viterbo
University chaplain, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial
on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 10:30 a.m. at Mary of the angels Chapel. Burial
will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse.
